3 - HISTORY AND NICE TO KNOW
The ancient Bastide: a castle, a chapel, a history. The community of La Bastide Solages is not without a feudal past, even with a few remaining architectural evidence. Before the revolution this area was named to La Bastide-Teulat. The center was the castle of La Bastide, named to the hamlet. On the rocky path there was a castle and a chapel. One still can find some remains.
In the 15th century this castle was the domain of the Lord of Teulat; in the 16th century it transferred to the Nogaret family. During the 17th century Messire Jean-Luc of Nogaret, catholic from origin, resisted the Marquis Durand of Sénégas, the Landlord of Plaisance, which was member of the reformed church. The latter, pugnacious of character, many times misused his power against the inhabitants of Plaisance, determined to revenche, managed to penetrate the castle of Verdun close to Plaisance and to kill the brother of the Marquis.
After several trials, of which one at the court of the Auvergne, the Marquis Durand of Sénégas was punished for his behaviour against the people and his property was detroyed in 1666. This is how the castle of Plaisance and all its annexe disappeared. Concerning the castle of La Bastide Solages; deserted by the family of, who returned to their property in Haute-Loire, was destroyed in 1811. The chapel remained a parish church until 1842. In that time a new church was build in the hamlet of Solage. The climax of the community of La Bastide Solages is at the end of the 19th century with more then 500 inhabitants.
