at the junction you take the D555 direction Plaisance
(opposite direction of Albi). After 200 m at the level
of the route to Lesparro take the sandy path left.
After the ascent you will see le Bousquet and the
valley of Mousse; at the crossing turn right, straight
ahead all the time until a stone crucifix. The road
descends all the time and comes back on the D555. Go
left for 400 meters direction St Sernin. In the curve
at the junction to Bousquet, take the sandy path at
the right side leading down to the river.
- The slope is
steep! Arriving at the river Rance, at a overhanging
part of the river, the Rance makes a right turn and
flows along the ruins of an old barn in a excavation
of a rock. The road reaches the banks of the river and
continues about 1 km parallel to the
river.
- With the houses of
Bastide Solages in sight, take a road to the right
which leads you to a small hamlet, follow this paths
through the hamlet, now ascending. After 150 m on the
asphalt road, follow a small path at the left side
leading you to the road direction of La

- Behind the farm go
right. Leave the road after 50 m and take a sandy path
after before you turn left. This path will ascend a
bit and lead you to the statue of the Holy Virgin
Mary, where you will find a pick-nick table. There you
will have a breath taking view; the confluence of the
river Rance and Tarn, Trébas, the valley of the
Tarn... To return to La Bastide Solages take the road
leading to the village.

- 3 - HISTORY
AND NICE TO KNOW
- The ancient
Bastide: a castle, a chapel, a history. The community
of La Bastide Solages is not without a feudal past,
even with a few remaining architectural evidence.
Before the revolution this area was named to La
Bastide-Teulat. The center was the castle of La
Bastide, named to the hamlet. On the rocky path there
was a castle and a chapel. One still can find some
remains.
- In the 15th
century this castle was the domain of the Lord of
Teulat; in the 16th century it transferred to the
Nogaret family. During the 17th century Messire
Jean-Luc of Nogaret, catholic from origin, resisted
the Marquis Durand of Sénégas, the
Landlord of Plaisance, which was member of the
reformed church. The latter, pugnacious of character,
many times misused his power against the inhabitants
of Plaisance, determined to revenche, managed to
penetrate the castle of Verdun close to Plaisance and
to kill the brother of the Marquis.
- After several
trials, of which one at the court of the Auvergne, the
Marquis Durand of Sénégas was punished
for his behaviour against the people and his property
was detroyed in 1666. This is how the castle of
Plaisance and all its annexe disappeared. Concerning
the castle of La Bastide Solages; deserted by the
family of, who returned to their property in
Haute-Loire, was destroyed in 1811. The chapel
remained a parish church until 1842. In that time a
new church was build in the hamlet of Solage. The
climax of the community of La Bastide Solages is at
the end of the 19th century with more then 500
inhabitants.
