- 3 - HISTORY
AND NICE TO KNOW
- This journey is
without much difficulties and offers a variety of
scenery; distant views from the mountain ridge and
down in the shade the vegetation. For lovers of old
landscapes and nature it will be heaven.
- The village of
Farret has its own charm. Nested in the small valley
of Constantinopel, it is dominated by the church, that
was build on the ruins of an old monastery dating from
960! The houses still have the settings of old XVth
and XVIth century doors and windows (observe the
facade of the restaurant). The church of Farret
celebrates its one hundreds anniversary. Watch the
date inscriptions on the windows (between 1896 and
1899) history will tell you that the first baptism
took place back in 1898. The church is named after the
holy Gilles. The big baptism festival is on the first
Sunday of September. One hundred years of devoted
care of the charming village for sure needs a face
lift.
- After visiting the
village and its surroundings you will appreciate the
culinary arts of tavern "Chez Nadine", specialist in
regional dishes; perhaps even stay for a night in one
of its rooms. All this in a familiar atmosphere. It is
a mandatory interval for every walker who wants to get
a good impression of this fine area and its
specialties.
